Total knee replacements are usually
performed on patients who have severe arthritic conditions.
In the past, total knee replacement would typically have
been carried out in patients over 55, but with advances in
implant technology, it is now common for this procedure to
be carried out in younger patients. Generally, patients
would be considered for knee replacement if they have pain
and/or stiffness which is severe enough to restrict their
lifestyle and ability to work.
