Anne, 52, is a Primary School teacher currently teaching a class of 11 year olds and is responsible for co-ordinating the teaching of PE.

My training and early teaching was as a PE specialist in Secondary Schools. I currently run two netball clubs and a Gym club for pupils after school and umpire netball matches. Time constraints prevent me from taking regular exercise but my hobbies include hill walking and my job involves a considerable amount of activity! We own an extremely remote cottage accessible only by sea or a 2km walk on a rough track and we are currently improving a second cottage involving some heavy building work!

Prior to the operation I was fit and healthy but significantly limited by my knee. I had medial menisectomies aged 16 and 18 following injuries playing hockey, which I believe may have contributed to the arthritic damage.

  Case Study - Anne Daplyn

Following four days in hospital I returned home able to walk upstairs unaided and able to bend my knee to 90 degrees. I continued to use a walking stick outside the house for about three weeks. I returned to work full time after six weeks. Two months after the operation I went on a holiday which included a lot of sightseeing and walking between different locations and was able to participate fully. After four months I was able to walk 6km on a school trip!

Two years after my Uniglide operation I am able to participate fully in my job and, in particular, the teaching of PE. I am once again able to walk over rough ground and complete the long walks that we had been forced to give up prior to the operation.

The operation has enabled me to continue my career as a classroom teacher and pursue my hobbies of walking and house renovation with my husband
