STEPHEN COX

Stephen, 54 a retained Fireman, enjoys hunting for treasure in Hertfordshire.

I have always been a fit and healthy person. I am a ceramic tiler by trade, which requires lots of stretching, bending and crouching. My big hobby is metal detecting for treasure in Hertfordshire.

As the arthritis in my hip got worse, I had problems working and had to give up my hobby because I could not walk far. I was in pain all the time and really bad tempered with everyone, especially my children. I could no longer run around and play with them.

I am also a retained Fireman, but to carry out my duties needed to be fit and active. With the increasing pain in my hip, not only could I not carry out the required activities but I would have been a liability to my colleagues.

Following my Hip Resurfacing I was walking in a

couple of days, climbing stairs after one week, and was soon back at work, as well as metal detecting again to my hearts content.

My life has changed completely and is now as normal as every one else.   I can play again with my children and take the dog for runs. I have just been passed fit for the Fire Brigade and back on operational duties.   Before I had my Hip Resurfacing, I really had nothing to look forward to.    Now my life is great again.
